EMMITSBURG, MD. -Brelon Harden hit for the cycle with a single, a double, a triple, and a home run as the Knights swept Mount Saint Mary's (9-21, 4-8 NEC) 20-10 on Saturday at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
With the victory, the Knights swept their third conference series and now are 18-17 overall and 10-2 in NEC play.
How it happened
- Hunter D'Amato opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the first inning, driving in George Rosales.
- Tom Ruscitti blasted a solo home run to start the second inning. Tommy Verga scored off an RBI double by Harden, and then Justin Sierra's double to the left-center allowed Harden to score. Sierra reached home while Zack Will was caught stealing second base, making it 6-0.
- The Knights extended their lead to 11-0 in the top of the third with back-to-back home runs by Joan Sosa and Ruscitti. Sierra and Harden also added two runs on a 2-RBI single to the right side by D'Amato.
- Mount St. Mary's responded with two home runs in the bottom of the third.
- Luke Cantwell scored in the top of the fourth on a single to left field by Ruscitti, and Harden blasted a three-run homer to left-center, driving in Verga and Ruscitti.
- The Mountaineers homered for the third time in the bottom of the fifth to make it 15-4.
- FDU added two runs in the top of the seventh inning. D'Amato scored on a fielder's choice, and Sosa reached home on an RBI single to left field by Verga.
- Edward Novoa hit his first collegiate career home run, driving in Sierra and Harden to finish the game with 20 runs and 18 safe hits.
- The Mount scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth, but it was not enough to catch up to FDU.
Inside the box
- Joey Kosowsky earned his second win by going 6.0 innings, striking out six, and allowing only four runs.
- Harden hit for the cycle as he went 4-6, with a single, double, a triple, a home run, and four runs batted in.
- D'Amato went 2-5 with four RBIs, a home run and two runs.
- Sosa went 3-5 with one RBI, a home run and two runs.
- Ruscitti finished 2-4, registering four RBIs, two home runs and three runs.
- Verga went 3-4 with two RBIs, two runs and a double.
- Sierra finished 2-4 with one RBI, a double and three runs.
