WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team beat Sacred Heart 4-1 in the semifinal round of the Northeast Conference Championship. The Knights earned the doubles point and Smriti Singh clinched in singles play.      

The Knights started strong in doubles competition. In the No. 2 spot, senior Aleksandra Vorozheikina and graduate student Marta Bettinelli took the match over SHU, 6-4. Also defeating the Pioneers on court three were juniors Amina Lasheen and Shreya Gulia, 6-4. In the No. 1 spot, junior Alena Kubanova and freshman Namie Isago's 6-6 battle against Clara O'Toole and Katsia Starastsenka resulted in an unfinished match.      

To start singles play, Vorozheikina played in the No. 2 spot sweeping Fisher, 6-0, 6-3. Lasheen played in the No. 3 spot and lost 6-1, 6-3. Isago followed in the No. 4 spot with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Singh clinched the match at the No. 5 spot against Flavia Rambladi, winning the match 6-4, 6-1. Kubanova competed in the No. 1 spot against SHU'a Starastsenka, battling an unfinished match. Playing in the No. 6 spot, Bhagia won the second set 6-3, leaving the third set unfinished.

FDU will compete in the NEC Championship final match as they face Bryant at 10:00 a.m. at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
