Artem Vetrov Leads Men's Volleyball to Sweep American International

HACKENSACK, N.J. - FDU men's volleyball returned to Stratis Arena on Friday, cruising past American International in straight sets. Artem Vetrov led the Knights in the sweep, tallying 16 kills on a .542 clip.
 
Prior to the first serve, the Knights honored graduate student Christian Ramirez in the team's first ever senior night of their inaugural season. The middle blocker from West New York, N.J., went on to record five kills, hitting a season best .714 average, adding a service ace and a block for 6.5 points.
 
Jose Angarita anchored the team with 34 assists, logging his second-best performance of the season.
 
How it Happened
 
Set One
-Vetrov deposited three early kills as the teams traded points to level the score at eight.
-The Yellow Jackets established a two-point edge as setter Brendan Hickey dumped a kill to force an FDU timeout. 
-With a series of attacks by Lorenzo Bonomo, the Knights reclaimed the advantage on a 4-1 run.
-FDU deposited a match-high 14 kills to take the set 25-23, holding AIC to a .048 clip.
 
Set Two
-The Knights established an early momentum on a 6-1 run capped by a service ace by Lorenzo Bonomo.
-On a 5-1 spurt, the Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to two midway through the set.
-FDU carried the lead with a series of attacks by Vetrov and Mihajlo Rodic, securing the set 25-20.
 
Set Two
-With an early series of kills, the Knights jumped into control with a 10-3 advantage.
-Jack Lydon extended FDU's lead with four points, putting a double-digit hold on the Yellow Jakets.
-Hitting a season-best .524 average in the set, the Knights sealed the match, 25-15.
 
Next Up
The Knights will return to play on Saturday to host Princeton at 4 p.m. in Stratis Arena.
