SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team (9-15, 3-0 NEC) defeated the Siena Saints (5-17, 3-0 MAAC) 4-2 at the Ewing Field "A" Diamond at Central Park. Michael DiMartino earned the win, and a solid offensive performance backed up the pitching with five players having multiple hits on the day.
How it happened
- The Knights opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Justin Sierra scored on a single to right by Tom Ruscitti.
- In the same inning, Ruscitti scored on a wild pitch.
- FDU extended its lead with two more runs in the top of the third. Ruscitti singled to the right, allowing Hunter D'Amato to score. Luke Cantwell scored on a sacrifice fly by Devin Pelletier, making the score 4-0.
- After four scoreless innings, Siena scored one run on a wild pitch and added another one on a double to right center to make the final score 4-2.
Inside the box
- The Knights used seven pitchers to shut down the Saints. DiMartino earned the win, not allowing any run and striking out two in 2.0 innings of play.
- Brendan Medoro took the save for coming in the last inning of play for striking out one and not allowing any run.
- Cantwell went 2-for-4 and scored one run.
- Ruscitti finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.
Next Up
The Knights travel to Sacred Heart for a three-game series this weekend. The first pitch in game one is set for Friday, April 1, at 3:00 p.m.
