BRIDGEPORT, CONN. -The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team (9-16, 3-1 NEC) was unable to hold off Sacred Heart (3-21, 2-2 NEC) in its first game of the series on Friday, falling 11-7 at Veteran's Park.
With inclement weather in the forecast for Sunday, the Knights are now playing a doubleheader tomorrow against the Pioneers. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
How it happened
- Sacred Heart took the early lead with eight runs in the second inning.
- George Rosales singled to bring home Luke Cantwell in the top of the fourth.
- The Pioneers added one more run in the fourth to make it 9-1.
- FDU scored three with bases loaded in the top of the fifth. Rosales walked and brought Joan Sosa home. TJ Werner recorded a pair of RBIs after a single, allowing Cantwell and Tom Ruscitti to score.
- In the top of the sixth, Hunter D'Amato scored on Justin Sierra's sacrifice fly, making the score 9-4.
- SHU extended its lead with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
- Ruscitti blasted a two-run homer in the eighth to make the final score 11-7.
Inside the box
- Gavin Price took the loss, allowing eight runs, five hits, three walks and zero strikeouts in 2.0 innings pitched.
- Ian Barrett struck out three in 4.0 innings of play.
- D'Amato finished 3-5, with a double, one run and a walk.
- Rosales went 2-4 with two RBIs and walk.
- Ruscitti registered two RBIs, two runs, two walks and a home run.
- Cantwell went 2-4 and scored three runs.
- Werner registered two RBIs
