TEANECK, N.J. -The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team (6-15, 1-0 NEC) won the first game of the series against Mount St. Mary (4-12, 0-1 NEC) 7-6 on Friday afternoon.
How it happened
- Luke Cantwell opened the scoring for FDU with a solo home run in the second inning.
- The Mountaineers responded with a two-run homer and three runs in the top of the third.
- The Knights regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth, making it 6-5. Cantwell scored on a single to left by TJ Werner. Zack Will hit a single bunt that brought Tommy Verga to home plate followed by an RBI single by Hunter D'Amato. With runners in second and third, Joan Sosa registered two RBIs on a single to left field.
- After a scoreless inning, FDU extended its lead 7-5 with one more run. George Rosales scored on a sacrifice fly by Will.
- In the ninth inning, Mount St. Mary's added a solo home run to make it 7-6, but it was not enough to catch up to FDU.
Inside the box
- Jake Simon picked up the win (2-1) by going two innings and striking out one. Brendan Medoro takes the save for striking out three in the last four innings of play.
- Werner went 3-for-4 and drove in one run and one RBI.
- Sosa went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
- Rosales registered a double and two runs.
- Will scored a run and two RBIs.
