TEANECK, N.J. -The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team defeated the Iona Gaels 16-1 in a mid-week game at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. Ethan Rembish earned the win and a strong offensive performance backed up the excellent pitching with nine players having multiple hits on the day.
How it happened
- The Iona Gaels opened the scoring in the first inning with a run.
- The Knights responded with two runs and a two-run homer in the bottom of the first. Hunter D'Amato scored on a single to third base by Justin Sierra. Joan Sosa stole third and scored on an error by the catcher. Luke Cantwell recorded his first collegiate home run with a two-run homer driving Sierra in, scoring 4-1.
- D'Amato scored again on a sacrifice fly by Cantwell in the bottom of the second.
- After a scoreless inning, Cantwell came back and blasted a second home run for the Knights to score 6-1.
- FDU added six runs in the bottom of the six. Tom Ruscitti hit a two-run single through the left side, scoring Sierra and Sosa. TJ Werner singled to right field, allowing Cantwell to score. Zack Will singled to center field and advanced to second on a throw, allowing William Pope to score. D'Amato hit a two-RBI double, scoring Will and Werner, to make it 12-1
- The Knights extended their lead in the seventh inning, 16-1. Edward Novoa hit a two-RBI double driving Cantwell and Sierra home. Novoa scored on a single to right field by Devin Pelletier, and Leo Lung registered his first collegiate run on an RBI double by D'Amato.
Inside the box
- The Knights used nine pitchers to shut down the Gaels. Ethan Rembish earned the win, not allowing any run and striking out one in one inning of play.
- Cantwell went 3-for-3 with four runs scored, two home runs, and two RBIs.
- Werner finished 2-for-2 with one RBI.
- D'Amato went 2-for-4, registering two doubles, two runs, and three RBIs.
- Novoa finished 1-for-1, recording two RBIs, a double, and a run.
