No. 13 FDU Caps Regular Season With Perfect 9-0 Weekend at Northeast Roundup

The Knights are seeded fourth for the upcoming NEC tournament and face #5 LIU on Thursday, March 24 at 9 a.m.

NEW CASTLE, Del. - No. 13 Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling (68-34, 12-9 NEC) captured the Northeast Roundup championship Sunday after running the table in the 10-team tournament, finishing a perfect 9-0 over the two-day event. The competition was FDU's final before the upcoming Northeast Conference tournament, scheduled to begin on Thursday, March 24, at 9 a.m. when the fourth-seeded Knights take on #5 LIU in the play-in match live on NEC Front Row.

On day one (Saturday) the Knights, one of three NEC members of take part in the event, bowled five matches of traditional scoring bouts topping Felician, the host Wilmington (Del.), Wagner, Kutztown and Chestnut Hill in order to begin the tournament undefeated. The day stretched the Knights' win streak to eight-straight matches as the team bowled their first traditional games in just under a month with the last matchup following the format coming on February 26 against No. 3 Sam Houston, a seven-pin loss for FDU. 

Redshirt sophomore Julianna Spina got FDU rocking in the first match of the weekend, rolling a 225 while graduate student Aimee Sherman contributed 201 pins of her own as the Knights crushed Felician 950-862. Moving to the second contest of the weekend against the hosting Wildcats with reigning NEC Bowler of the Year Jenna Henderson leading the charge with a 229 game followed by 184s from Sherman and Amanda Chrzanowski who completes the Knights' graduate student triumvirate. Junior Ashley Sham put-up a 159 spot in the bout while Spina added-in 174 pins to round-out the lineup as the Knights won 930-872 moving into a match against fellow NEC member Wagner.

Three Knights crossed 200 downed pins in the 955-848 victory led by Spina's 210, Sherman's 205 and Chrzanowski's 204 while Henderson wasn't far behind with a 193 of her own. Chrznowski, Sherman and Spina accounted for nearly 65 percent of the Knights' pinfall in the match. Senior Lanasia Neal saw her first action of the weekend in the contest and knocked down 143 pins.

Progressing to match four, FDU hit the 1,000 pin mark in traditional action for the first time since facing Howard on February 26 as the side handed former NEC associate member Kutztown a 71-pin loss, 1,023-952. Junior Cameron Spring rolled the high-game for FDU with a 269 while Chrzanowski added a 266 in the anchor position, a spot she's found comfortable this season. Sophomore Jennifer Oxman shined in the battle with a 197 mark for the Lauderhill, Fla. product.

Mike LoPresti's side finished the day with a 1,011-823 rout of Chestnut Hill powered by two-time NEC Bowler of the Week Chrzanowski's 266, three pins shy of Spring's day-high (269).

Moving to day two, the Knights crushed Bloomfield, Adelphi and Mercyhurst (twice) in Baker total pinfall battles to end the regular season on a 12-match win streak, stretching from the final NEC meet of the season just before spring break. Spring's day one high game was the Knights' weekend high as Spina would come the closest in the first Mercyhurst match of the day as the East Islip, N.Y. native rolled a 268.

Chrzanowski and Sherman each finished in the top-10 individual standings with the Schenectady, N.Y. product Chrzanowski finishing second with 1,080 pins downed and Jackson, N.J. native Sherman finishing seventh with 996 pins. Chrzanowski was named to the tournament's All-Star Team.

FDU returns to action as the four-seed in the upcoming NEC tournament when the side takes part in the play-in match at Hamilton Lanes & Entertainment Center in Hamilton, N.J. on Thursday, March 25, at 9 a.m. against #5 LIU for the chance to advance in the four-team tournament bracket.
