Men's Volleyball Concludes First Point Collegiate Challenge

AUSTIN, TEXAS - The Knights (0-5) fell in four sets to Queens (N.C.) (5-4) on Saturday on the second day of the First Point Collegiate Challenge at the Austin Convention Center.

 

Inside the Box Score

  • Jack Lydon paced the Knights with a match-high 14 kills. Lydon also recorded four blocks and three service aces for 19.5 points.

  • Jose Angarita anchored FDU at setter with 27 assists and four digs. The freshman also deposited a pair of kills on a .500 clip.

  • FDU tallied a season-high 12 total blocks as five Knights recorded solo blocks. 

 

How it Happened
First set:

  • Queens started the match strong with an 8-2 lead.

  • The Knights struggled to establish an offensive rhythm as the royals held FDU to five kills.

  • Freshmen Lorenzo Bonomo and Jack Lydon recorded two kills each.

  • The Royals maintained control throughout the set to drop the Knights 25-13.

Second Set:

  • The teams exchanged points to open the set.

  • With the score knotted, 11-11, Queens broke open a two-point lead.

  • FDU forced an advantage with back-to-back kills by freshmen Artem Vetrov and Jose Angarita, along with an ace by Lydon.

  • A pair of Queens hitting errors pushed the Knights into a 22-19 lead.

  • Lydon finished the set with a kill from the back row to give FDU a 25-23 set win.

Third Set:

  • The Royals came out with a 6-3 edge in the set.

  • Trailing 11-6, FDU battled back with a three-point spurt capped by a block solo from freshman Jael Deveaux.

  • Queens would respond with a series of kills to extend their lead, 15-11, moving on to win the set 25-17

Fourth Set:

  • The Knights opened set one with a kill from Rui Fernandes and a pair of blocks to establish a 5-2 lead.

  • The Royals leveled the score, 9-9, with a block at the net.

  •  The teams traded points to 20 with a game-high 13 kills by the Knights. The Royals took off on a final stretch of kills to finish the match, 25-22.
