Box Score AUSTIN, T.X. – FDU opened the First Point Collegiate Challenge presented by Ogio against AVCA No. 1 Hawai'i. The Knights record moved to 0-3 while the Rainbow Warriors improved to 5-2 after a straight set win for UH.
How It Happened:
1st Set:
- FDU took the first point of the Collegiate Challenge match on a hitting error
- With the Knights down 7-5 graduate student Rui Fernandes had a monster solo block to cut into the deficit in the first set
- Hawaii used a 7-1 run to open a wide margin forcing FDU to take a timeout
- Freshman Artem Vetrov had 2 kills for the Knights in the set
- Hawai'i took the first set 25-10
2nd Set:
- Hawai'i jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead but FDU rallied with a couple points
- Freshman Lorenzo Bonomo brought energy with a kill. Freshman Mihajlo Rodic followed the kill with a solo roof earning the point
- Vetrov added 3 kills in the set and Freshman Jack Lydon earned a couple kills from the back row
- Hawai'i used several runs to ensure a second set victory 25-14
3rd Set:
- Lydon got the Knights on the board after an athletic set from Fernandes. Lydon got his second kill of the set with a kill down the left side. The freshman from Leesburg, VA got another kill off of a Hawai'i block to cut into the deficit and get the Knights within 2 points
- Hawai'i used a 6-2 run to open up a 11-6 lead
- Vetrov had the next two points for FDU with a couple kills
- Sophomore Santiago La Jara got a ball down from a Fernandes pass through a couple blockers
- Fernandes had an emphatic block to earn the Knights 12th point
- Hawai'i would take the set 25-15
Insides the Box Score:
- Vetrov led the way for the Knights with 7 kills
- Fernandes assisted on 22 of the Knights points
- Freshman Grady Hoffman had a .968 receiving percentage off Hawai'i serves
