Women's Basketball Tripped Up by Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Knights (16-10, 13-3 NEC) were stunned by Wagner (15-10, 9-7 NEC) on Thursday as they fell 63-59 at Spiro Sports Center.

How it Happened

  • The Seahawks jumped out on a 6-0 run to establish an edge early on. Aniya Bell responded with a basket with 6:20 remaining to break the Knights drought. The teams swapped leads five times before FDU settled at a 15-14 deficit to end the quarter.

  • Dahomee Forgues opened the second period with a layup to force an FDU advantage. A pair of triples by Wagner's Lina Loceniece would give the Seahawks control, which they would carry into halftime. A final jumper by Chloe Wilson followed by a foul shot by Madeline Selvaggi would end the period 30-29.

  • The Knights came out of the half on the defensive front with a block by Bell in the first ten seconds of play. The Seahawks went on a 6-1 run to extend their lead, ending the quarter 44-40.

  • Wagner sustained their momentum into the final period, coming out on a five-point run. With 5:42 remaining in the game, Bell and Madison Stanley drained a pair of crucial back-to-back long-range shots. The teams traded baskets as FDU trailed by no more than three until the final two minutes of play. Wagner shot five-for-five from the free throw line to open up the gap in the final sixty seconds. Bell deposited a triple at the buzzer, but it would not be enough to close the gap as the Knights fell 63-59.
