Women's Basketball Suffers Second Conference Loss at SFU

LORETTO, PA. - FDU women's basketball (14-9, 11-2 NEC) picked up their second conference loss of the season at Saint Francis U (7-17, 7-6 NEC) on Friday as the Knights continue to lead the NEC on an 11-2 record.

 

How it Happened

  • The Red Flash jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. With 4:46 remaining, Dahomée Forgues broke the FDU drought with five points. SFU closed with a three-point advantage as Aniya Bell canned a layup at the buzzer to end the period 10-7.

  • Bell came out hot in the second quarter with seven points in the first three minutes of play. As the Red Flash sustained the lead, Rachael Niles sank a three-point shot to get within three. A final four points by SFU's Jenna Mastellone ended the quarter in the favor of the Red Flash, 28-21.

  • Saint Francis maintained control out of the half with a game-high 22 points in the third period.

  • Sustaining the momentum, the Red Flash shot 80 percent from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. The Knights cut into the lead with triples by Niles and Abby Conklin, but it was not enough to close the gap as the Knights fell, 70-56.

Inside the Box Score

  • Aniya Bell led the Knights with 24 points, shooting a season-best 8-for-15 from the field. The junior also recorded three rebounds, an assist and a pair of steals towards FDU's cause.

  • Miranda Elebring led the Knights in rebounds with a season-high six boards. 

  • The Red Flash recorded a season-best 70 points and six blocks on a .500 clip as the Red Flash Jada Dapaa racked up 13 points and 16 rebounds.
