Women's Basketball Defeats Merrimack in Play4Kay Matchup

HACKENSACK, N.J. - The Knights (15-9, 12-2 NEC) defeated Merrimack (8-14, 6-8 NEC) at Stratis Arena on Thursday in FDU's Play4Kay game in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

How it Happened

  • FDU recognized Madison Stanley prior to tip off with a 1,000 point ball after the graduate student surpassed the milestone against CCSU earlier this month.

  • In their #Play4Kay game, the Knights showed support for those fighting cancer, contributing to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

  • The Knights jumped out with an early lead as Aniya Bell drained a three in the first minute of play. Maintaining the lead, FDU ended the quarter 11-8.

  • With a triple by Merrimack's Jayme DeCesare, the Warriors took a one-point advantage early in the second quarter. The Knights responded with a quick eight-point run to enter halftime with a 26-21 advantage.

  • Both teams went scoreless in the first two minutes out of the half till Bell put away a triple with 5:21 remaining. A pair of layups by Stanley pushed open the gap, to end the quarter with a ten-point FDU advantage.

  • With a three-point shot by Bell early in the final quarter, the Knights forced a Merrimack timeout. Out of the timeout, the Warriors launched on a 13-point run. Celia Carbonell recorded a crucial triple with 1:51 left to play which the Knights would carry to end the game, 55-49.
