DeAngelo Captures NEC Player of the Week Honors

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - FDU senior women's basketball forward Sierra DeAngelo put together a huge week in which she helped the Knights win two of two games, earning her NEC Player of the Week. This is DeAngelo's first time winning the honor in her collegiate career. The Knights faced off against NJIT and UMass Lowell in the week picking up two victories. The Pittsburgh. Pa. native averaged 12.5 points per game during the week while adding 8.5 rebounds a night.

Leading the Burgundy and Blue to a 2-0 record in the reporting period, DeAngelo had a huge night against NJIT where she picked up her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds. She also added two blocks to the mix Wednesday night in the win over the Highlanders. On Saturday she added another efficient performance to her record with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting and five rebounds in a win over the UMass Lowell River Hawks. DeAngelo added two assists and rebounds while picking up a steal to help the Knights take down the River Hawks 62-48.

Through the two games in the week, DeAngelo was extremely efficient from the field shooting 10-for-20 including 40% from three-point range. These two performances come on the tail end of the Pittsburgh native exploding last week for 23 points in 24 minutes of play versus the UMES Hawks.

Through eight contests this season DeAngelo is third on the Knights in total rebounds with 41 and second in total points and points per game with a respective 12.0 and 96.

"I am super proud of Sierra," said head coach Angelika Szumilo. "Sierra is a great leader and cares deeply about the team's success. She has been practicing very well and that has translated into strong performances this past week."

FDU women's basketball looks to continue their hot streak when the Knights take on Georgetown on Friday, December 9 at Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center in Hackensack, N.J. Fans can watch the game live on NEC Front Row.
