Singleton Named NEC Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - After leading the Knights to a thrilling 17-point win over Saint Joseph's on Saturday, FDU men's basketball graduate student guard Grant Singleton was named Northeast Conference Player of the Week, as revealed by the league office Monday afternoon.

The five-foot-nine Singleton (Sumter, S.C./Lakewood) picked up right where he left off at St. Thomas Aquinas with 162 points through 10 games and 10 starts in 2022-23. The perfect partner in the front court with his former teammate Demetre Roberts, a fellow fifth-year transfer from STAC, the duo, along with sophomore forward Ansley Almonor were named NEC Prime Performers.

Singleton was a two-time East Coast Conference (ECC) Player of the Week, earning the honor once each in his junior and senior seasons. He was also a two-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week last year with the Spartans.

Pacing FDU to a 1-1 week capped by the win over the Hawks, Singleton led the Knights in scoring in both games played averaging 21.5 points per game in 64 total minutes over the two matchups. Hitting 14-of-29 from the field (48.3 percent), Singleton poured in 50 percent of his attempts from three-point range making 9-of-18, including five at Hartford on November 30. Getting hot early, Singleton led FDU in scoring at halftime of Saturday's tilt on Hawk Hill, shooting 3-for-5 with an assist and steal. He'd go on to finish with a team-best 24 points (tied with Roberts) on a stat line that included two rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Singleton also led FDU in dimes with seven assists dished out at Hartford while his nine triples led all Knights. He finished the two-game week with 43 points, nine assists, five steals and four rebounds en route to garnering his first NEC Player of the Week recognition.

Leading all NEC players in scoring this reporting period, Singleton ranked in field goal percentage (eighth), assists (tied-fifth) and made three-point field goals (first).

Roberts also had himself a week earning the fifth-year his third NEC Prime Performer nod in four weeks of the 2022-23 season. The Mount Vernon, N.Y. native averaged 17.5 points per game with 10 assists and 3.5 rebounds per contest. Like Singleton, Roberts finished a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line while shooting 54.5 percent from the field (12-for-22) and 5-of-9 from deep (55.6 percent). Almonor finished third to round-out the trio earning honors this week with 15 points per game in two starts on 48.5 percent shooting from the field with four made threes and eight rebounds.

The Knights have a break before they return to action in their seventh-straight game away from home when FDU travels to Columbia to face the Lions on Friday, December 9 at 7 p.m. live on ESPN+. The Burgundy and Blue return to the Rothman on Sunday, December 11 for a 2 p.m. tilt with in-state rival NJIT live on NEC Front Row and the NEC On the Run app. Tickets for Sunday's game are on-sale now at FDUKnights.com/Tickets.
