Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Knights' win streak comes to a close Tuesday as men's basketball falls to Richmond 77-48

RICHMOND, Va. - FDU men's basketball fell a game below .500 Tuesday after the Knights (6-7, 0-0 NEC) fell to Richmond (5-5, 0-0 A-10) 77-48 at the Robins Center in Richmond, Va.

The Knights were in an early hole shooting just 14 percent from the field (4-for-29) trailing the home Spiders 42-9 after 20 minutes. Calling a timeout at 12:14 in the first half, Tobin Anderson and FDU found themselves down 13-1 with the lone point in the first five-plus minutes coming from a free throw made by graduate student guard and NEC Co-Player of the Week Demetre Roberts. At the timeout, FDU had gone over six minutes without registering a point.

In addition to Roberts' free throw, four Knights scored in the opening period with a bucket each coming from sophomore Ansley Almonor, junior Joe Munden Jr., junior Sean Moore and graduate student Grant Singleton, last week's NEC Player of the Week. On the other side of the floor, the home standing Spiders shot over 50 percent from the floor, knocking down 16-of-31 led by forward Tyler Burton's seven points on 50 percent shooting (3-for-6). FDU got the job done on the boards, racking up 18 rebounds with five belonging to Almonor - all of which came off the defensive glass.

Almonor would finish the game with six rebounds, one shy of his season high (seven) and a total of seven points.

Things would turn around for the Burgundy and Blue in the second half as the Knights hit 7-of-16 from behind the arch, scoring a total of 39 points in the second half, after going 0-for-11 in the opening period. Tallying 39 points, FDU had an 8-0 scoring run started off by Cameron Tweedy.

Looking to put Tuesday's tilt in the rear view, FDU returns to Hackensack on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. against Queen's (N.C.) live on NEC Front Row.

The 2022-23 men's basketball season is presented by Bogota Savings Bank.
