Men's Basketball Begins New Era Monday at Loyola Chicago

CHICAGO - FDU men's basketball looks to right the ship Monday, November 7 as the Knights take on A-10 side Loyola Chicago for the first time in program history at the Joseph J. Gentile Arena in Chicago, Ill. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. central, 8 p.m. eastern live on NBC Sports Chicago and ESPN+. The game also marks the first-ever regular season contest for new head coach Tobin Anderson who joined the Burgundy and Blue on May 3 after a wildly successful tenure in Division II at St. Thomas Aquinas.

The Ramblers, known for their improbable run to the NCAA Final Four in 2018, are coming off their second-consecutive NCAA tournament appearance and recently joined the Atlantic 10 Conference with 2022-23 being their first season as a member. Coming into Monday's tilt with FDU, Loyola Chicago finished the campaign 25-8, their final in the Missouri Valley Conference. After winning The Valley's automatic qualifier to the Big Dance after toppling Drake 64-58 in the championship game, the Ramblers faced Ohio State in the first round, falling to the Buckeyes 54-41. Loyola would trail by five at the half.

While Monday's lid-lifter is the first meeting between the Knights and Loyola Chicago, the Ramblers have faced current Northeast Conference members eight times and are 3-5 against members of the now nine-team NEC.

After a disappointing 4-22 season in 2021-22, the Knights look to the turn the page and present an energetic, high-end brand of basketball stemming from Anderson's tutelage. The FDU roster has been transformed from last season's squad with only six Knights returning, including NEC All-Rookie Team honoree, junior guard Sébastien Lamaute, who returns for his second season on the Hackensack. Anderson brought three familiar faces with him on the court with graduate students Demetre Roberts and Grant Singleton making their way to Teaneck along with junior Sean Moore who played one season at STAC. Roberts and Singleton combined to score 2,700 points with the Spartans and compliment each other well on the hardwood with the Knights' press and offensive system.

Following the matchup with the Ramblers, FDU comes home to Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center on Wednesday, November 9 at 7 p.m. to take on Mercy (N.Y.) live on NEC Front Row. Last season FDU played their first eight games on the road.

The 2022-23 men's basketball season is presented by Bogota Savings Bank.
