Knights Women's Basketball Drops Afternoon Matchup Versus Austin Peay

SAVANNAH, GA. -  The FDU Knights (3-2, 0-0) took on the Austin Peay Governors (3-2, 0-0) at the Hostilo Community Classic in Savannah, Ga where they lost 46-53. The Knights came out of the gates strong with a 17-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. The quarter saw Chloe Wilson, Sierra DeAngelo, and Madeline Selvaggi leading the scoring. The Knights defense forced Austin Peay to shoot 3-for-14 from the field. The game slowly starter to change after the first quarter, FDU went on to be outscored in the next three quarters be a score of 29-45. Despite the struggle on both ends the Knights still had a one-point lead going into the final quarter but they were outscored 20-12 and failed to make a comeback at the end. Despite Wilson's 18 points the Knights struggled to get offensive production from anywhere else.
 
Statistical Leaders
  • Wilson led all scorers with 18 points. She also added seven rebounds.
  • Abby Conklin hit two three-pointers and racked up eight points in the game.
  • Selvaggi and Celia Carbonell both collected double-digit rebounds. They had 21 combined boards.
First Quarter

FDU 17, APSU 8
  • The Knights had a balance-scoring attack to begin the game with points from Wilson, DeAngelo and Selvaggi.
  • FDU led APSU 11-8 at the first media timeout. Wilson was off to another hot start with five points.
  • The Knights ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to lead 17-8. DeAngelo led them with six points.
  • The Burgundy and Blue's stifling defense forced the Govs to shoot 3-for-14 in the quarter.
Second Quarter

FDU 26, APSU 20
  • At the media timeout the Knights led 22-12, Conklin drilled a three to force an APSU timeout.
  • The Knights defense forced seven first-half turnovers and the Govs only shot 7-for-24 from the field.
  • Despite a strong defensive performance, the Knights turned the ball over seven times on the offensive end.
  • FDU shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the quarter.
  • Wilson led the Knights with nine points. Selvaggi added four points and a team-leading five rebounds.
Third Quarter

FDU 34, APSU 33
  • A quick 5-0 run from APSU forced a timeout by head coach Angelika Szumilo. FDU led 26-25.
  • With 2:00 remaining the Knights were in a 31-31 defensive battle.
  • Back-to-back shots from Conklin gave FDU the lead back.
  • FDU held onto a one-point lead heading into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter

FDU 46, APSU 53
  • FDU and APSU traded bucket for bucket in the first minutes of the quarter. 40-40 with 5:55 remaining.
  • Five minutes in both teams were unstoppable on the offensive end, FDU 3-for-4 and APSU 4-for-5 from the field.
  • The Knights struggled on both ends of the court and could not hold onto their lead.
