SAVANNAH, GA. - The FDU Knights (3-1, 0-0) took down the UIC Flames (3-1, 0-0) at the Hostilo Community Classic in Savannah, Ga 63-51. Both teams took time to get used to the new arena and struggled to make shots early. The first quarter saw a combined 20 points with the Knights shooting only 25% from the field.
Chloe Wilson and fifth-year
Madeline Selvaggi were the only players to score in the quarter, Wilson led with six points. Things picked up in the second quarter when
Sierra DeAngelo popped off for eight points including a perfect 4-for-4 from the field. FDU shot 46.2% in the quarter to go on top of the eight first-half turnovers they forced and going into half-time they led 24-21. Both teams went bucket for bucket in the quarter where FDU extended their lead by only two points. The defense of the Knights kept them in the lead with the four turnovers they forced the Flames into. The fourth quarter saw an offensive explosion from both teams, Wilson and
Ella Fajardo each scored 10 points to extend the Knights lead and Selvaggi drilled the Knights only three of the night to give them a seven-point lead with 4:54 remaining. The scoring outburst was too much for UIC to handle. Wilson led the Knights to their third win of the season with a 26-point outburst.
- Wilson led all scorers with a 26-point outburst. She also added seven rebounds.
- DeAngelo and Fajardo both scored double-digit points with 12 and 10 apiece.
- Dahomée Forgues pitched in six rebounds off the bench.
FDU 9, UIC 11
- Both offenses struggled halfway through the quarter but FDU's defense forced three quick turnovers. The Knights led 4-2.
- The Knights trailed 8-4 at the first media timeout.
- Chloe Wilson led the Knights in scoring with six points. She shot 4-for-6 at the charity stripe.
FDU 24, UIC 21
- FDU went on a 11-4 run to begin the quarter led by six points from DeAngelo.
- The Knights defense forced eight first-half turnovers.
- DeAngelo scored eight points in the quarter to give the Knights the lead.
- FDU has shot 8-for-12 from the free-throw line in the first half.
- DeAngelo and Wilson lead the scoring with eight points each.
FDU 36, UIC 31
- The Knights defense stayed consistent forcing four more turnovers in the quarter.
- Wilson had a huge 10 minutes putting up eight points, giving her 16 on the night.
- Carbonell forced back-to-back turnovers, one leading to a fast break layup.
- The Flames shot 1-for-7 from the free throw line.
FDU 63, UIC 51
- Maddy Slevaggi drilled a three with 4:35 remaining to extend the Knights lead to seven
- Both teams erupted with fourth quarter scoring. The Knights outscored the Flames 27-20 in the fourth.
- Ella Fajardo pitched in 10 points in the quarter.
- FDU shot a perfect 10-for-10 from the line to seal the game.
- Wilson led FDU with a huge 26-point night.
