HACKENSACK, Nj- FDU women's volleyball (9-11, 3-1) fell short to Sacred Heart (10-8, 3-1) at Stratis Arena in a high energy five-set battle. (16-25, 10-25, 25-21, 25-18, 12-15)
- MacKenzy Ruggiero led the team with 11 kills.
- Madisyn Beirne entered the match in the second set sparking the Knights with her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs and four aces.
- Hannah Schmit had 28 assists for the Knights.
Set 1
- FDU allowed SHU to go on a five-point run early on (11-6) and create a 10-point lead (17-7). FDU worked hard to close that gap but ultimately fell to SHU 25-16.
- The Knights were out of system most of the set but Nott put down three kills.
Set 2
- SHU went on several three-point runs to gain a lead and added two five-point runs to gain a large lead over FDU and end the set 25-10.
- FDU gave up 9 points on hitting errors, two serving errors, and surrendered three aces.
Set 3
- FDU came out full of energy in set three and went on a five-point run to gain a 10-5 lead.
- SHU closed the gap at 19-19 but FDU was able to secure set three 25-21 with two instant kills from Fisk and Ruggiero.
- Four kills from Rampazzo and Beirne and three for Ruggiero off of five assists from Bushnell and seven from Schmidt.
- Beirne had three aces in set three.
Set 4
- FDU started set four off strong filling the Stratis Arena with energy and took control of the set early with a 15-10 lead and maintained the lead, winning 25-18.
- Spiridonakos put down four kills and both Fisk and Beirne had three.
Set 5
- The Burgundy and Blue jumped out to the early 6-3 lead forcing Sacred Heart to call a timeout.
- FDU played point for point with SHU untill the Pioneers went on a three-point run to make it 13-11 and would go on to win 15-12.
- Both Beirne and Ruggieo put down three kills in the set.
"That felt like two different games." Coach David Nguyen said. "The team played with so much heart in the last three sets. I need to refocus and dial in for CCSU."
