Women's Soccer Drops Close Senior Day Match To Merrimack

Teaneck N.J.- The FDU Women's soccer team (6-9-2)(5-1-2) faced Merrimack (7-7-3)(5-2-1) today, October 23rd at 12PM. The Knights honored the seniors on senior day today but could not find a breakthrough in the match.

How It Happened

1st Half
  • In the 9' the Burgundy and Blue created their first chance of the match with graduate student Madelyn Robbins beating a defender and crossing the ball to Aitana Martínez-Montoya. Martínez-Montoya headed the ball on target but goalkeeper Lilly Morgan was able to make the save.
  • Merrimack broke the deadlock in the 32' from an Ella Cormier cross that found Molly Murnane in the box who finished the chance to make it 1-0.
  • The Knights continued to push for a goal and created four chances in the half forcing Morgan to make two saves.

2nd Half

  • FDU opened the second half with energy and looked to equalize the game early on.
  • The Knights first chance came just one minute into the half when graduate student Lea Egner attempted a shot that ended up wide right of the post.
  • Freshman Dominique Liberto forced Morgan to make the first save of the second half in the 53' when Liberto took a powerful shot that was saved comfortably.
  • Sophomore Malene Nielsen made an incredible leg save in the 79' to keep the Knights within striking distance.
  • The Burgundy and Blue continued to push for an equalizer but could not find the back of the net with any of their six shots in the half.
Quotable

"We needed to come and have a little more energy, there were a lot of distractions today with senior day and I think we could've handled that a little bit better." Stated assistant coach Morgan Bauer. "We need to learn from this but also let it go and work hard to get ready for Stonehill next week."
