SINKING SPRINGS, Pa. - No. 10 FDU women's bowling won each of their first four Baker total pinfall matches Sunday as the team wrapped-up the Golden Bear Invite, finishing second following a one-pin loss in the tiebreaker of a Baker match play battle to Caldwell, 4.0-3.5.
(Matches 1-4 followed Baker total pinfall scoring, match five was played as Baker match play [best 4-of-7])
Match 1 - FDU 989, D'Youville 937
Match 2 - FDU 982, Felician 794
Match 3 - FDU 1000, No. 19 Morgan State 933
Match 4 - FDU 952, No. 15 (DII/III) Kutztown 797
Match 5 - No. 13 (DII/III) Caldwell 4.0, FDU 3.5 (94-93 tiebreaker)
- FDU has won 18 matches in a row against the Golden Falcons.
- The most exciting match of the day came in the position playoff against Caldwell. FDU fell behind 198-176 in the first game and battled back to a deadlocked 167 in the second.
- Mike LoPresti's Knights would carve out a 222-193 third before falling in the fourth by just two pins (190-188). With Caldwell up 2.5-1.5, FDU commanded a 204-199 win in the fifth before the Cougars pulled away with the sixth.
- Winning the seventh game 183-164, FDU forced a tiebreaker which was won by Caldwell 94-93.
- Senior Ashley Sham was named to the All-Tournament Team.
"It was a sound performance all around for us and I'm ecstatic about the grit and resilience of our team," said LoPresti. "It's to early in the season to crow about big wins or worry about tough losses. After many years, we pretty much have a new team; that includes five new players. Therefore, our intentions all along was use our fall schedule gain experience, evaluate and improve. This weekend's performance did just that."
FDU hits the lanes again beginning Friday, October 28 in the Dezy Strong Classic in Coram, N.Y. at Coram Country Lanes.
