BROOKLYN, Ny- Following a defeat on Friday night, FDU (11-12, 5-2) responded in a big way, defeating LIU (10-9, 5-2) in straight sets on Saturday night. Inside the Box score
  • FDU hit .240 on the match outpacing LIU who struggled hitting only .137.
  • Freshman Kylie Nott led the way in kills with 10 while senior Tessa Fisk and graduate student Tatijana Fucka were effective at the net with four blocks apiece.
  • Sophomore Hannah Schmidt was the lone setter in the match for the Knights accumulating 31 assists, one shy of her season high.
Set 1:
  • LIU pounced early opening up a 9-4 advantage. Following an LIU kill, the Knights sided-out and went on a 7-3 run that started with a Sofia Rampazzo kill to tie the score at 13.
  • Both teams exchanged points until it was 18-18 when Rampazzo delivered back-to-back kills to ignite a 6-3 run to close out the set 25-21.
Set 2:
  • This time it was FDU's turn to open the early lead at 9-5, with Nott and Fucka earning five of the points. The home side answered with a 5-1 run to tie it up at 10.
  • Following shaky serving from each team, the set was tied again at 18. The Burgundy and Blue answered the call again with another 6-3 run to close out the set 25-21. Schmidt started the run with a kill of her own and then the LIU gave away several points on hitting and service errors.
Set 3:

  • While neither team hit well in the set, the decisive run came with FDU leading 14-12. LIU had four-straight errors to give the Knights a six-point cushion.
Quotable

Head coach David Nguyen: "What a way to respond from a tough loss yesterday. We are not a flashy team but that's okay. The team is playing winning volleyball and that's all we care about."

Sophomore Hannah Schmidt: "I though we recovered well from the loss last night, and with the new lineup everyone stepped up and took care of our defense. We were a lot more aggressive offensively, which really helped us pull through with the win. I'm so proud of these ladies and can't wait to see what the rest of the season is like for us."
