Women's Basketball Downs Reigning NEC Champion Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, M.D. - The Knights (11-8, 8-1 NEC) picked up their fifth-straight win on Thursday in a victory over reigning NEC champion Mount St. Mary's (7-9, 5-4 NEC).

 

How it Happened

  • With the score leveled at 10 and 4:30 remaining in the period, the Mountaineers took off on a quick 13-5 spurt to gain control. 

  • The Mount came out in the second quarter to shoot six-for-eight from the free throw line and establish a 14-point advantage, their largest lead of the game. The Knights responded with an eight-point spurt in the paint, shrinking the deficit to six by halftime.

  • FDU came out of halftime on a hot streak, tallying 21 points and shooting six-for-six from the free throw line.  With 13 seconds on the clock, Madison Stanley deposited a pair of free throws to tie the game.

  • Both teams fought in the fourth quarter to settle the score at 52 with 3:12 remaining on the clock. It was a pair of back-to-back triples by Madison Stanley that sent the Knights on a 12-point run to seal the decision in their favor, 64-56.

Inside the Box Score

  • Stanley matched her career-high with 25 points, shooting three-for-four from deep and four-for-four from the charity stripe. Stanley also recorded nine rebounds, a block and a steal to lead the Knights to the win.

  • Also tallying double-digit points was Chloe Wilson who shot six-for-nine from the field for 15 points.

  • Madeline Selvaggi recorded a season-high five steals, also contributing a pair of assists and seven points.

  • Three Knights shot a season-high 94% (16-for-17) from the free throw line.
