Women's Basketball Drops the Sharks

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Knights (10-8, 7-1 NEC) defeated LIU (2-14, 2-6 NEC), 49-36, at Steinberg Wellness Center on Sunday, marking their fourth straight win this month.

How it Happened

  • The Knights jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as Madison Stanley opened the first minute of play with five points. FDU maintained control to end the quarter with a three-point advantage.

  • With 6:58 remaining in the second period, Chloe Wilson took off on a fast break to send FDU on a nine-point run. The Sharks struggled to find the basket with an eight-minute scoring drought, closing the half 24-15.

  • Celia Carbonell shot two-for-two from the three-point line in the third quarter to put the Knights at the largest lead of the game with a 16-point advantage. LIU went scoreless in the first six minutes out of the half but managed a quick seven-point spurt to shrink the gap to 12 at the end of the quarter.

  • FDU shot 6-for-11 from the floor in the final ten minutes to maintain their game-long lead and drop the Sharks 49-36.

Inside the Box Score

  • Stanley recorded her 500th career rebound as she led the Knights with 21 points, shooting a season-best 9-for-11 from the floor. Stanley also contributed seven rebounds and a pair of steals to guide FDU to the win.

  • Chloe Wilson added 12 points of her own, along with five rebounds and a pair of steals.

  • The Knights have dropped five-of-eight NEC opponents by double digits as they continue to lead the conference.

From Coach Szumilo
It wasn't pretty but we managed to find a way to win. Despite not not shooting well, we stuck to our defensive principles, and I am proud of our team for that. I think that the St. Francis Brooklyn game was such a high intensity for us that it might have affected us today. Nonetheless very proud our team just finding a way to win.

Next Up

The Knights continue conference play on the road on Thursday as they take on Mount St. Mary's at Knott Arena.
