Knights Come Up Short in a Game with Many Connections

BRONX, N.Y. – In a contest that returned head coach Angelika Szumilo back to her coaching roots at Fordham, the Knights (5-7, 2-0 NEC) were defeated by the Rams (9-3, 0-0 A10) in the last non-conference tilt of the season 63-36. Covid-19 played a role in the game as FDU was short-handed and only dressed 10 players. The game was held without fans at the historic Rose Hill Gym due to policies at Fordham University.

How It Happened:
1st Quarter: 2nd Quarter:
  • Fordham opened the quarter on a 5-2 run and took the lead
  • The Knights responded with a mid-range jumper by Scott and a layup by Miranda Elebring
  • Stanley was able to break a four-minute scoring drought with a three off of a pick-and-pop from the middle of the floor to keep the Knights in striking distance
  • Fordham went on a 10-point run in the final 2:34 of the quarter to take a 30-19 lead at the half
3rd Quarter:
  • Fordham opened the second half on a 11-0 run
  • Celia Carbonell was able to cut into the deficit with a corner three pointer
  • The Rams shot an efficient 63% in the quarter to extend the lead
4th Quarter:
  • Fordham maintained their lead and cushion throughout the quarter
  • Forgues was able to create space driving the left for a layup to start the Knights scoring in the quarter
  • Madeline Selvaggi added 4 points in the quarter including being fouled on a made reverse layup for the bonus free throw
  • FDU and Fordham played the final quarter even at 10 points apiece
Next Up:
