Knights Outlook
The Knights took to the road for the first time last week to compete in the Holly Young Invitational in Durham, N.H where they picked up a sweep over Siena and a pair of losses to Providence and New Hampshire.
Graduate student Alix Christie had a breakout performance, earning a spot on the All-Tournament team with a .376 clip and an average of 2.6 kills per set. Christie led the Knights through the three-day invitational with 26 kills and seven blocks for 30.5 points.
In a big weekend for freshmen, Megan Bushnell dished out 29 assists and three aces against Siena while Hannah Schmidt contributed 39 assists and two aces against New Hampshire. Freshman Omayra Valle also contributed to the Knight's cause, posting three aces in her first sets as a Knight.
The Competition
The Knights will meet host-school Providence (7-1) for the second time this season along with Binghamton (1-5) and Saint Peter's (0-8).
Scouting Binghamton
Led by 22-year head coach Glenn Kiriyama, the Binghamton Bearcats were dropped last weekend in all three matches of the Lehigh Tournament. Pacing the Bearcats on offense is freshman outside hitter Carly Powell. Powell put up a season-high 15 kills last weekend against St. Francis Brooklyn and averages two kills per set. On the defense, senior defensive specialist Emily Rail leads with 3.5 digs per set. The Knights will meet the Bearcats on Friday for the first time since 2009.
Scouting Saint Peter's
In his third year, the Saint Peter's Peacocks are led by head coach Joe Chojnacki. Following a straight-set loss to St. Francis on Wednesday, the Peacocks will go head-to-head with the Knights for the first time since 2018. The Peacocks are fueled by senior outside hitter Alanis Alvarado who leads on both sides of the ball with 56 kills, 54 digs and seven blocks on the season.
Scouting Providence
The Knights will meet Providence once again after their loss to the Friars last Friday in Durham, N.H. Coming off a sweep at Merrimack on Wednesday, the Friars are led by 20-year head coach Margot Royer-Johnson. Weapons for the Friars include graduate setter and Preseason All-Big East selection Allison Barber and freshman Shaliyah Rhoden who leads in attacks with 103 kills and a .310 clip on the season.

"This weekend, just like many other programs in the US, is a measuring stick. The 3rd weekend typically is a good gauge to see if we are learning and growing. We are using the Friar Classic not only to compete but to also continue to improve."
Next Up
Following the Friar Classic, the Knights will return to home play on Tuesday, September 14 to face off with the NJIT Highlanders at 7 p.m. in the Rothman Center.
