Knights Swept by Providence on Second Day of the Holly Young Invitational

DURHAM, N.H. - The FDU Knights (2-3) fell in straight sets to the Providence Friars (5-1) Friday on the second day of the Holly Young Invitational.

How it Happened

  • Sophomore Madisyn Beirne led the Knights in attacks with nine kills, followed by graduate student Alix Christie with eight for a combined 19 points.

  • The Knights took an early 7-2 lead in the first set off back-to-back aces by Graduate student Miriam Stingl. The Friars responded with a series of kills and did not let up, topping the Knights 25-15.

  • With the second set knotted at 12, the Friars went on a four-point kill streak to take the lead and finish the set 25-19.

  • FDU picked up on offense in the third set, putting up 14 kills for a .333 clip. However, it was not enough to hold the Friars. With the Knights trailing 18-17, Providence went on a five-point run to secure the set and the match.

From Coach France

"The start was not great for the Knights, and we were punished for our spotty play early on. The ladies competed much better in sets two and three, but Providence just played better."
