Scouting the Sharks
LIU come into this match looking for their first win of the season and having suffered a handful of heartbreaks to get here. Last Sunday, up 1-0 on St. Francis Brooklyn, they were doomed to a double overtime draw by a goal for the Terriers in the 75'. They've seen two other matches go into double overtime, tasting defeat in the extra periods to Vermont, and remaining level at zeroes with Stony Brook. The Sharks will be looking for a repeat of last season, when they went to the NEC Championship Game as the #2 seed, ultimately falling 4-0 to Central Connecticut State. This season's Sharks have had a pair of goalies earn NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors, junior Kayla DeTreux followed the next week by senior Lydia Fraga Cordoba. In attack, the side are led by 2019 Second Team All-NEC honoree Kendra Oldroyd, who has scored two goals this season in just 73 minutes of play, both off corners, both delivered by Mackenzie Morano.
Scouting the Knights
FDU come into this match with a 4-3-2 record, and a win in their lone conference match so far. The Knights toppled Saint Francis U by a score of 3-0 to log that all-important conference-opening win, and they saw their second match, a date with Mount St. Mary's in Teaneck, get deemed a no-contest and postponed due to inclement weather. The Knights have plenty of good history against LIU as of late, with six consecutive wins over the New York-based foe by a combined score of 15-4. This season, the Knights have been led by a balanced attack of seven different goal scorers for their eight goals, and five separate assisters for the six assists logged. A pair of freshmen have helped lead the way at both ends of the pitch, with goalkeeper Malene Nielsen anchoring the defense and earning a grand total of six weekly accolades from the NEC thus far, and Aitana Martínez-Montoya as the lone multi-goal scorer of the side who also leads the way with 26 shots and 14 shots on goal.
Coach Teepe's Thoughts
"We know we have to be ready for this match as LIU has proven they can play and compete for the NEC tourney. It will be tough to play on their field, so we will have to be well organized and take our chances when we have them."
What's Next
The Knights remain road warriors into next week as they travel to North Andover to square off with Merrimack on Thursday, September 30, at 5 p.m.
