Women's Volleyball Falls to Virginia on Final Day of the University of Virginia Tournament

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - On the final weekend leading up to NEC conference play, FDU women's volleyball fell to Virginia in Charlottesville on the second day the University of Virginia Tournament.

Inside the Box Score

  • Senior Sophia Spiridonakos led the Knights with six kills followed by sophomore Madisyn Beirne who tallied five kills of her own. Beirne also led FDU's defensive effort, with a season-high 14 digs.

  • Freshman Hannah Schmidt posted a perfect clip, notching all three attempted kills while leading the Knights with 18 assists.

How it Happened

  • Set one started in a tight battle, as the teams traded points to level the score at nine. Virginia broke open a gap on a six-point run, using the momentum to take the set 25-15.

  • Virginia kept a slight edge on FDU throughout set two. A six-point run with back-to-back blocks by FDU senior Brooke Stevens tied the score, but it was not enough to hold the Cavaliers as the Knights dropped the set 25-20.

  • In set three, Virginia took an early four-point advantage and did not let up. The Cavaliers kept the pressure on, closing the set 25-17 and defeating the Knights.
