Stingl Earns Spot on Friar Classic All-Tournament Team While Knights Add Two Losses

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - With 30 kills, 22 digs and five blocks on the weekend, graduate student Miriam Stingl secured a spot on the Friar Classic All-Tournament team as the Knights (3-6) added losses to Saint Peter's (1-10) and Providence (10-1) in Providence, R.I. on Saturday.

FDU vs. Saint Peter's

Inside the Box Score

  • Pacing the Knights on both sides of the ball was Stingl who recorded a season-high 14 kills, 13 digs and three blocks for a total of 16.4 points.

  • Freshman Anaya Prince and exchange student Pauline Giordano made their Knight's debut, each appearing in two sets. Prince posted three kills and two blocks for 4.5 points while Giordano anchored the offense with 17 assists in the first two sets.

How it Happened

  • The first set was a back-and-forth affair. Following a series of kills off assists by Giordano, the Knights forced a 15-11 edge. However, this couldn't hold the Peacocks down, as they went on a six-point run to take the set 28-26.

  • Set two belonged to the Peacocks from the start. With a 10-6 lead, Saint Peter's maintained control, topping the Knights 25-17.

  • In set three, FDU created momentum and sustained it. With a series of kills off assists from freshman Hannah Schmidt, the Knights secured the set 25-14.

  • Saint Peter's jumped out to a four-point advantage early in the final set. The Peacocks maintained the lead and closed the set 25-20.

FDU vs. Providence

Inside the Box Score

  • Senior Sophia Spiridonakos led the Knights in points, posting nine kills and a block for 9.5 points

  • Also contributing to the Knights cause was junior Tessa Fisk who dished out six kills for a .417 clip, and graduate student Alix Christie who notched five kills and three blocks.

How it Happened

  • Set one began in a tight battle, with back-to-back attacks by Fisk knotting the score at eight. A pair of kills by Providence junior Sasha Rudich forced a gap that the Knights could not close, as they dropped the set 25-21.

  • FDU jumped to an early 5-1 lead in the second set, but it was not enough to hold the Friars. With a series of eight kills, Providence took the set 25-11.

  • Set three got off to another tight start, but as the Friars established momentum, they were able to sweep the Knights 25-18.

From Coach France
"The Knights showed some mettle in the two matches today. We knew going into this weekend we would have to overcome adversity. We have a very quick turnaround to NJIT on Tuesday. We pledge to be better by then at the Rothman."
