Scouting the Lions
Columbia is coming off of their own double-overtime win, as they toppled La Salle on the road 2-1 in their most recent game, thanks to the second goal of the season from Madi Pilla. The Lions are coming off of back-to-back victories and were selected to finish fifth in the eight-team Ivy League, the follow-up from a 9-3-4 season in 2019, their latest in play. Like the Knights, the Lions suffered an early-season defeat to a strong ranked opponent, #25 Hofstra, before catching some momentum as of late. The Lions are also led by a wave of youth, as five of the six women who have a goal or assist this season, including both points leaders, Pilla and Nata Ramirez, are underclassmen.
Scouting the Knights
Having a flair for the dramatic as of late, the Knights are coming off their second double-overtime win in three games. A late-winner from Naemi Hausen continued the Knights' undefeated record this season in matches that have gone into overtime (2-0-2). Over the last five matches, the Knights have allowed just two goals, and Malene Nielsen has logged four clean sheets while currently possessing a 332-minute shutout streak. Nielsen, the reigning NEC Player, Defensive Player and two-time Rookie of the Week, also leads the NEC in saves with 39 through FDU's seven games this season and has a goals against average of 1.28.
Coach Teepe's Thoughts
"Looking at this match vs. Columbia, we know how strong they have been in the Ivy League, and it will again test where we are as a team and where we want to go. Having had another OT game, I would imagine we will need our whole team to help find a result in this one. I have liked how our team has responded so far so hopefully, we can show that resilience again."
