PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The FDU women's volleyball team (3-4) was dropped by the Binghamton Bearcats (2-5) in straight sets Friday afternoon on the first day of the Friar Classic.

Graduate student Miriam Stingl paced the Knights with nine kills and two blocks for 11 points.

Anchoring the Knights were freshmen Megan Bushnell with 26 assists and senior Allegra Rivas who posted 22 digs.
How it Happened

The teams traded points throughout the first set. With the game knotted at 24, the Bearcats slipped by the Knights, taking the set 26-24.

Set two started in another tight battle, with neither team holding more than a one-point lead to 15. Binghamton forced a gap with a final series of kills, dropping the Knights 25-23.

The Knights jumped to an early 8-3 lead in the third set, but it was not enough to hold the Bearcats. On a nine-point run, Binghamton took the set 25-21, securing the match.

"We did not play our best volleyball this afternoon. We lost two deuce games and roared out to a huge lead in set three, but we couldn't sustain the momentum we created. Tomorrow is a day for us to show that we can improve from day-to-day."
Next Up
The women's volleyball team returns to play tomorrow for the second day of the Friar Classic. At 11 a.m. the Knights will go head-to-head with Saint Peter's, then will face off with the Providence Friars at 5:30 p.m. for the second time this season.
