Knights Look to Bounce Back After Setback Against Binghamton

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The FDU women's volleyball team (3-4) was dropped by the Binghamton Bearcats (2-5) in straight sets Friday afternoon on the first day of the Friar Classic.

Inside the Box Score

  • Graduate student Miriam Stingl paced the Knights with nine kills and two blocks for 11 points.

  • Anchoring the Knights were freshmen Megan Bushnell with 26 assists and senior Allegra Rivas who posted 22 digs.

How it Happened

  • The teams traded points throughout the first set. With the game knotted at 24, the Bearcats slipped by the Knights, taking the set 26-24.

  • Set two started in another tight battle, with neither team holding more than a one-point lead to 15. Binghamton forced a gap with a final series of kills, dropping the Knights 25-23.

  • The Knights jumped to an early 8-3 lead in the third set, but it was not enough to hold the Bearcats. On a nine-point run, Binghamton took the set 25-21, securing the match.

From Coach France

"We did not play our best volleyball this afternoon. We lost two deuce games and roared out to a huge lead in set three, but we couldn't sustain the momentum we created. Tomorrow is a day for us to show that we can improve from day-to-day."

Next Up

The women's volleyball team returns to play tomorrow for the second day of the Friar Classic. At 11 a.m. the Knights will go head-to-head with Saint Peter's, then will face off with the Providence Friars at 5:30 p.m. for the second time this season.
