Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Knights Topple Rams Thanks to High-Octane Attack

SNEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team (1-2-1) saw their attack come alive against the Fordham Rams (1-3-0), as the Knights defeated the Rams by a score of 3-2.

How it Happened

  • Alexiane Marquis started the party early with a fifth-minute strike from 20 yards out to open the scoring.
  • The game slowed in tempo and the Rams saw more possession, but the defense continued their defensive efforts from the previous match, holding firm throughout.
  • Madelyn Robbins made it 2-0 with a massive assist from Helena Lehr, who stole the ball from a Fordham player on the right wing and made a hard run and low cross to find the senior midfielder in the box.
  • The Knights had a chance from the penalty spot in the 47', but the kick from Marquis struck the post and bounced away.
  • In the 55', Lehr added a third for the Knights when a loose ball, spilled out after a collision with Christa Waterman and the Fordham keeper, found its way from Gina Steiner who had her initial effort blocked, but stuck with it and found Lehr, who finished in an open net.
  • Fordham added a pair of goals in the 72' and 80', but FDU would remain in enough control to hold on and take a 3-2 victory out of the Bronx.

Inside the Box Score

  • Alexiane Marquis paced the attack with her early goal and three total shots. The Knights as a team would also top the Rams in shots on goal, four to one, and total shots, eight to five.
  • Malene Nielsen earned the first win of her collegiate career, aided by center back pairing Briana Esteves and Christa Waterman, all three making their second consecutive start together as the last line of defense.
  • Helena Lehr logged her first goal and assist in her collegiate career. Gina Steiner's assist was the first assist in her FDU career.

Coach Teepe's Thoughts
"Today we were a little more aggressive in trying to get behind the defense, and I think that created some goals. I thought Alexiane was fantastic -- running at people, challenging people. You know what you're going to get from Maddie every single game and she gives you that effort, and it's a relentless effort. And Christa and Noam in the back just were composed. Our upperclassmen definitely stepped up their games today."

What's Next

The Knights come back to the Garden State on Thursday, September 2, to take on Seton Hall at Owen T. Carroll Field in South Orange. The match begins at 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Pirates Sports Network on FloFC.
