Hackensack, N.J. - The FDU Knights (2-1) split the final two games of the FDU Tournament presented by Fairfield Inn and Suites of Marriott Paramus on Saturday with a win against Maryland Eastern Shore (1-2) and a loss to Robert Morris (3-0).

Game One: FDU vs. Maryland Eastern Shore

Sophomore Madisyn Beirne led the offensive attack for the Knights with 14 kills, followed by graduate student Miriam Stingl (13) and junior Tessa Fisk (8).

Freshman Megan Bushnell helped steer the offense in her second game as a Knight, dishing out 27 assists and 16 digs.Â

Stingl contributed to the defensive effort, posting five blocks.

The Knights found themselves in a hole early in the first set as they went down 6-2. The Hawks established their largest lead of the match with a five-point streak that widened the gap 16-9. As the Knights fought to shorten the lead, they couldn't overcome the early deficit and dropped the set, 25-22.Â

Set two was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team holding more than a three-point lead. It was a string of attacks off assists by Bushnell that pushed the Knights into the lead, taking the set 25-23.

The teams traded points through the third set. With the game knotted 24-24, a kill by Beirne pushed the Knights into the lead, before edging out the Hawks 26-24.

In a tight start to their fourth set, the Knights found themselves leveled with the Hawks 4-4. Following a five-point streak, FDU took control and did not look back. With the momentum from attacks by Alix Christie and Magdalena Maksimovic, the Knights secured the match.

Game Two: FDU vs. Robert Morris

Maksimovic led the way on offense with nine kills, followed by Fisk (5) and Sophia Spiridonakos (4).

Freshman Megan Bushnell put up her first collegiate point with a kill in the third set.

FDU found themselves in a tight battle early in the first frame with kills from Maksimovic and Sophia Spiridonakos. It was a six-point streak from Robert Morris that stunned the Knights, dropping them the set 25-18.

Following a five-point run, the Colonials took control early in set two with an 11-5 lead. FDU established momentum behind back-to-back service aces by Stingl, evening the score at 17-17. Robert Morris closed out the frame 25-18 with a final run.Â

Robert Morris jumped to an early 11-6 lead and held command from that point on. FDU put together a mid-set series of attacks to close the gap, but it was unsuccessful as the Knights fell 25-18.

"The day was mixed as we lost one and won one. Obviously, we would love to win every match, but this evening we met a very determined opponent in Robert Morris. We know that we win or we learn, and we hope to learn our lessons before we head to New Hampshire on Thursday."

Next Up
The Knights head to Durham, N.H. on Thursday to compete in the Holly Young Invitational. Set to compete in the three-day event is host school New Hampshire, Providence and Siena.
