HACKENSACK, N.J. - The FDU Knights (1-0) swept the Manhattan Jaspers (0-1) in their season opener on Friday night at the Rothman Center, marking their first win under Interim Head Coach
Karl France.
How it Happened
- Sophomore Madisyn Beirne and graduate student Miriam Stingl paced the Knights on offense, both notching 11 kills.
- Freshman Hannah Schmidt clipped her first collegiate stats, recording 34 assists and one kill.
- The Knights grabbed a six-point lead early in the first set with a series of attacks off assists by Schmidt. FDU continued their hot streak, closing the set at 25-10 with back-to-back service aces from Allegra Rivas.
- FDU got off to a quick start again in the second set, taking a 7-1 lead behind serves from Schmidt and Beirne. The momentum continued on offense with the Knights ultimately taking the set 25-16.
- The teams traded points at the beginning of the third set until a nine-point run by the Knights jolted the score to 16-9. A pair of attacks from graduate student Alix Christie helped lengthen the Knight's lead, sealing the final set 25-18.
Thoughts from Coach France
"If we maintain the play we had today over the next couple of weeks, we will do pretty well in the conference. It was great to see the girls back in an energetic realm, they played organized volleyball. I can't wait to see what they do tomorrow."

The Knights will be back in the Rothman Center tomorrow to take on Maryland Eastern Shore at 12:30 p.m. and Robert Morris at 5:30 p.m. as part of the FDU Tournament presented by Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott Paramus.
