Scouting the Orange
The Orange are set to host the Burgundy and Blue in their season opener following the cancellation of their match against Albany. Syracuse went 1-7 over the shortened 2020-21 fall-to-spring season and were selected to finish 13th in their conference according to the ACC Preseason Poll. Goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx ranks seventh in program history in saves made and her mark of 9.12 per game was good for third in the NCAA last season. The Orange have lost just two of their previous nine season openers.
Scouting the Knights
FDU will look to bounce back following their season-opening loss to No. 25 Rutgers in Piscataway. Despite the defeat, the Knights saw several freshmen impress, including Malene Nielsen, who made eight saves, and Aitana Martínez-Montoya, who had the most dangerous chance of the match for the Knights with a shot forcing a tough save from the Rutgers keeper. In total, nine rookies earned collegiate debuts for Bergen County's team and head coach Eric Teepe noted how impressed he was with them in his post-match comments.
Coach Teepe's Thoughts
"While we are disappointed in our play Thursday night, we are excited that we get to turn around and have the same challenge right away. We know we need to step up our game and since we still, in our minds, are in preseason training, this is a way to continue our growth."
What's Next
After their trip to New York, the Knights will head down to Philadelphia to take on the Saint Joseph's Hawks on Thursday, August 26, at 7 p.m., at Sweeney Field live on ESPN+.
