Scouting the Scarlet Knights
Selected #25 in the 2021 United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are coming off a 9-3-4 season (6-2-3 in conference play). Participants of last year's NCAA tournament, Rutgers won their first-round game against Southeastern Louisiana before losing to Clemson in penalty kicks the next round. The Scarlet Knights return a slew of players from their successful season, including senior forward Amirah Ali, a three-time All-American and the team-leading scorer with seven goals in the 2021 spring campaign.

Scouting the Knights
The Knights were selected to place second in the NEC in the conference's preseason poll released last week. FDU returns seven All-NEC honorees, including seniors Christa Waterman and Madelyn Robbins, both selected to the All-NEC First Team. All-NEC Second Team selection Naemi Hausen earned the team's Golden Boot last season, notching a team-leading five goals. The Knights return 14 players who made at least one start last season, including ten who started at least half of the team's matches. This match will be the team's first match against a ranked opponent since taking on #9 Rutgers in the 2015 NCAA tournament.

Coach Teepe's Thoughts
"It's been an interesting preseason so far as we have to bring in some new student-athletes while replacing some of key players from last season. We are excited by how these players have trained and are gaining traction with our program. With their progress and the ability of our returning players we are hopeful of having another run at a NEC title game."

What's Next
Following the trip to Rutgers, FDU takes on the Orange in Syracuse, N.Y. on Sunday, August 22, at 12 p.m.
