FDYS Day Two Highlights Spring Team Knights, MVP's, and Iron Knights

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson Athletic Department announced the winners of the Team MVP and Knight Awards for the Spring sports and the Iron Knight Awards on day two of the fourth annual FDYS Awards on Tuesday, June 1.

The Iron Knight Award is awarded to the team and a male and female player of high character and demonstrate strong leadership during their time with the strength and conditioning staff.

2021 FDYS Awards Winners
Baseball: Team Knight: Mike Veit
Veit appeared in 37 games, while batting .298, driving in a team-high 24 runs, 45 hits, stole eight bases, and had a .743 OPS.
Team MVP: James Donlon
Donlon played in 36 games and led the team with a .325 batting average, 11 doubles, four homers, and 64 total bases. The graduate student also drove in 20 runs and recorded 41 hits.

Softball: Team Knight: Riley De Laval
De Laval appeared in three games before an injury ended her season, but the junior remained engaged on and off the field to support her teammates.
Team MVP: Madison Emerson
Emerson earned a spot on the All-NEC Second Team and was named the NEC's Most Improved Player as she led the Knights offense with a .388 batting average, an OPS of 1.107, 23 runs scored, 40 hits, 10 doubles, six homers, 26 RBI's, 68 total bases, and a .660 slugging percentage.

Men's Tennis: Team Knight: Andris Gudins
Gudins was named to the All-NEC First Team in doubles with Pukse and a spot on the All-NEC Second Team in singles after five doubles wins and three singles victories.
Team MVP: Teodors Pukse
Pukse was named NEC Player of the Year, earned a spot on the All-NEC First Team in singles and doubles and the All-NEC Tournament Team after helping FDU win the NEC Championship. He won four singles matches and three doubles bouts.

Women's Tennis: Team Knight: Smriti Singh
Singh won two singles matches and a doubles bout, with one of her singles wins clinching an upset against Sacred Heart in a three-set thriller.
Team MVP: Aleksandra Vorozheikina
Vorozheikina was named to the All-NEC Second Team in singles after a three-set win over Sacred Heart in the NEC Quarterfinals.

Men's Golf: Team Knight: Florian Schroedl
Schroedl earned a spot on the All-NEC First Team after a stroke average of 75.1 and tied for second place in the NEC Championship.
Team MVP: Freddie Spencer
Spencer was named to the All-NEC Second Team and boasted a team-best 74.8 stroke average and placed in the top-10 in four different tournaments.

Women's Golf: Team Knight: Victoria Schroedl
Shroedl earned a spot on the All-NEC First Team with a season stroke average of 77.2 and placed second individually as the Knights won the 2021 NEC Championship.
Team MVP: Julia Warke
Warke was named NEC Player of the Year after winning the NEC Individual Title with a three-round score of 224 (74-71-79). She averaged a team-best 76.8 stroke average and placed in the top-10 on four different occasions.

Men's Track and Field: Team Knight: Taeco O'Garro
O'Garro posted a third-place finish in the triple jump and set a PR (15.75 meters) at the NEC Championship, won a silver medal at the IC4A Championship in the triple jump, and earned a gold medal in the long jump (7.35 meters) at the NEC Championships.
Team MVP: Salif Mane
Mane broke his own program record three times this season (16.14 meters), earned two gold medals at the NEC Championship (16.04 meters) and IC4A Championship (16.14 meters), broke the NEC Championship record in the triple jump, and a bronze medal in the long jump (7.12 meters).

Women's Track and Field: Team Knight: Dominyka Leskauskaite
Leskauskaite earned a silver medal at the ECAC Championships with a leap of 12.31 meters and also earned a bronze medal in the long jump at the NEC Championships with a leap of 5.77 meters.
Team MVP: Lisa Warfvinge
Warfvinge brought home a pair of medals at the NEC Championships, with a silver medal in the long jump with a 5.99 meter leap and a bronze medal in the triple jump with an 11.91 meter jump.

Iron Knight: Team: Women's Basketball
Women's Basketball posted a 16-8 overall record and earned the fourth seed in the NEC Tournament.
Male Athlete: Brandon Rush
Rush appeared in 23 games and ranked second on the team with a points per game average of 14.3 points while shooting an average of 48.0 percent from the floor. He also averaged 4.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per night.
Female Athlete: Madeline Selvaggi
Selvaggi started 20 games and controlled the game on both ends of the floor for the Knights while averaging 5.1 rebounds, 3.3 points, and 2.9 assists per contest.
