Savaglio Named NEC Pitcher of the Week

SOMERSET, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson softball junior Alayna Savaglio was named NEC Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday afternoon as announced by the conference office.

Savaglio pitched in four games this week and posted a 3-1 record. The junior pitched 25.2 innings, struck out 41 batters, pitched three complete games, and posted a 1.64 ERA as she only allowed six earned runs.

"A long overdue award for Alayna, but very well deserved," said head coach Chris Foye. "Each and every one of her performances she continues to compete and prove herself on the mound. Against Bryant, she had an awesome diving catch on a squeeze bunt to double off the runner at 3rd to end a rally."

"She is a stud and we are lucky to have her for the next few years. We are proud of how far she has come since the offseason and recovering from COVID in the winter."

The Middletown, N.Y., native opened her week with a 7.0 inning complete game victory, her fifth of the year, only allowed two hits, and allowed no earned runs. The southpaw struck out 10 batters in her 28 batters faced as the Knights won 6-2 over Mount St. Mary's in game one.

Savaglio took the mound again in game two against Mount St. Mary's the junior pitched another gem as she pitched another 7.0 inning complete game and struck out 14 Mountaineer batters. She only allowed two hits again over 27 batters faced.

The junior picked up her sixth win of the year on the mound when she pitched 4.2 innings and only allowed three runs as FDU beat Bryant 15-9 in game one of the weekend series. Savaglio struck out eight batters and only allowed five hits.

The southpaw pitched game one on Sunday against Bryant and recorded her seventh victory of the season and ninth complete game as FDU won 5-3. She pitched 7.0 innings, struck out nine batters, only allowed three runs, and seven hits in the win.

On the season, Savaglio has a team-leading 2.71 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, has struck out 127 batters, and has pitched nine complete games over 93.0 innings pitched.

The Knights will conclude their regular with a doubleheader against Hofstra on Sunday, May 9 beginning at 12:00 p.m.
