Baseball Drops Final Game of Series with Sacred Heart

BRIDGEPORT, C.T. - FDU (6-22, 5-16) dropped the final game of the three-game series to Sacred Heart (17-18, 12-6) on Sunday afternoon 7-3.

How it Happened:
  • Sacred Heart opened the scoring with a run in the 1st inning 
  • FDU would take the lead in the top of the 2nd as James Donlon began the rally by getting hit by a pitch
    • Donlon advanced to third on consecutive wild pitches
    • Following a Brad Levinson walk, Tommy Verga singled in Donlon to tie the game
    • TJ Werner broke the tie with a single of his own driving in Levinson
  • SHU answered though in their half of the inning, taking back the lead after two run single made it a 3-2 game
  • In the 5th inning Sacred Heart extended its lead with two more runs
  • The Knights top of the order would cut into the deficit in the 7th inning
    • Mike Veit led off the inning with a double
    • After two outs, Donlon drove in Veit with a single
  • The Pioneers would add two insurance runs in the 8th inning 
Inside the Box Score:
  • Donlon extended his hitting streak to four games, the third time he has done that this season. Donlon finished the series 7-13 from the plate with 5 runs and 2 RBI
  • Veit went 6-13 in the series, which brings his batting average to .308 on the season
Next Up:

The Knights are scheduled to face Lehigh on Wednesday May 5. Then the Knights welcome Wagner to Naimoli Family Baseball Complex for a three-game series on Friday may 7 at 3 p.m.. The game was moved to Teaneck, NJ due to a scheduling conflict on Wagner's home field. As a result, FDU will be the visiting team in the series against Wagner.
