Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hausen Nets Game-Winner as Knights Top Mount St. Mary's 1-0

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Sophomore midfielder Naemi Hausen netted the game-winning goal in the 55th minute to propel the Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team (4-3-0, 4-2-0 NEC) to a 1-0 win over Mount St. Mary's (3-4, 2-4 NEC) from Waldron Family Stadium on Friday night.

Hausen led the Knights with three shots on goal and tied with junior Madelyn Robbins for shots as they both recorded five shots. In net, sophomore Katie Leckonby made her first career start and made one save in the match. This was FDU's third shutout of the season and the Knights are 3-0 when shutting out their opponents.

Coach Teepe's Thoughts
"We were happy that we controlled the game, but I felt we came out at the start of the second half with more confidence," said coach Eric Teepe. "We need to find a way to get a scrappy goal and sometimes you need to win the game that way."

"Katie stepped up and played a calm, confident game for us in net. Tori came in the midfield off the bench and provided a spark. We hit two or three shots off the post, but I think we did a good job of applying pressure and getting good looks."

"Naemi's goal came off a set piece and she was able to put it in. Naemi has been strong for us and it was good for her confidence to score. In our past games, I felt our corner kicks were dangerous and we executed what we did in practice. As the game progresses, we get more dangerous and aggressive. I think there was excitement and relief following the win."

How it Happened
  • Hausen created the Knights first chance of the match in the 18th minute when she fired a shot at goal that was scooped up Mount St. Mary's goalie Maggie Barron.
  • The sophomore also created another solid chance in 28th minute and again Barron recorded a save to force an FDU corner.
  • FDU created its best chance of the half when freshman Aleyna Gross attempted a shot that was saved, but senior Tori Smith got the rebound and had her shot stopped as well.
  • The Knights goal came early in the second half when Robbins dribbled the ball down the field, fired a shot that found the foot of Udovc, who then fired a shot that was saved by the Mount defense before Hausen scored her scrappy goal in the 55th minute.
  • Junior Isabelle Udovc and Robbins each registered quality shots on goal in the 74th and 80th minutes respectively that were saved.
  • Leckonby stopped the Mountaineers best shot attempt of the night in the 84th minute to help the Knights prevail 1-0.
