Baseball Falls to LIU in Low Scoring Duel

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team (3-9, 2-5 NEC) couldn't complete the comeback in the ninth inning and fell to LIU (6-4, 4-3 NEC) by a 3-2 total on Thursday afternoon.

Knights head coach Rob DiToma turned to graduate student pitcher Marc Bisogno to start the first game of this series against the Sharks. Bisogno, in his first start of the season, went 5.1 innings while only giving up just one run.

How it Happened
  • LIU scored the first run in the first inning on a single to left field
  • The Knights responded in the 3rd. Following two walks, graduate student James Donlon had a sacrifice bunt; followed by a sacrifice fly RBI by junior Tom Ruscitti
  • Bisogno went 5.1 innings, surrendering 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 6; sophomore Bryce Timko came on in relief and got the final outs of the 6th inning
  • In the 7th inning, LIU regained the lead as the Knights walked in the run
  • The home side got the insurance run in 8th inning as another walk by the Knights led to a single driving in the third run
  • FDU battled in the 9th with a two-out rally. Freshman TJ Werner started things off with an infield single. Werner stole second which allowed graduate student Mike Veit to drive in the second run of the afternoon

  • Ruscitti drove in his 10th RBI of the season
  • Veit single in the ninth gave him his 9th RBI of the season
  • Werner stole second base in the 9th inning, the first stolen base of his collegiate career
  • Freshman Michael DiMartino received the loss
