Women's Soccer Cruises to 4-0 Shutout Win at Wagner on Tuesday Night

Box Score STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team (2-1-0, 2-0-0 NEC) got goals from four different players as they cruised to a 4-0 shutout win against Wagner (0-2-0, 0-1-0 NEC) on Tuesday night from Hameline Field. Sophomore Naemi Hausen netted a goal and dished out two assists, which was good for four points in the victory.

The four goals were the most in an NEC match since November 3, 2019 when FDU scored four goals in a 4-1 win over Mount St. Mary's. Junior Isabelle Udovc scored a goal and dished out a pair of assists in the contest. Fellow junior Madelyn Robbins and senior Alexiane Marquis added the other two FDU goals. Senior Viktorija Miseljic recorded an assist on Hausen and Marquis' goal.

Coach Teepe's Thoughts
"I felt we did a good job controlling the ball in the first half, but we needed to be more aggressive in the second half," said head coach Eric Teepe following the win. "Getting that second goal gave us confidence and we became very aggressive. The second half showed us how potent we can be in the attacking part of the field."

"Naemi is so creative on the ball and we are still trying to find ways to get her the ball. By playing through her, she can really break down a defense and that was probably her best game for us."

"I've given our players the freedom to be creative on their own and get together to make decisions and read the defense on free kicks," said Teepe when asked about Robbins goal off the free kick. "That goal was big for our confidence for the remainder of the game."

"Izzy has been fantastic for us so far this season. We knew we could slide her in central right away and you can see her growth on the field. Izzy can be so dangerous for us going forward and we've always known how good she is."

"Alex plays with such emotion and puts pressure on herself. When she doesn't worry about things, which she did in the second half she can be dangerous on the attack."

How it Happened
  • Junior Lea Egner registered the matches first shot on net when she fired a shot in the fifth minute that was stopped by Wagner goalie Erin Kelly.
  • In the 11th minute of action, Udovc threw the ball in play to Miseljic, who played the ball out wide and crossed it to the middle of the box, where Hausen netted the goal by lofting the ball over Kelly's head to give FDU a 1-0 advantage.
  • Marquis created the best two chances in the remainder of the first half, with the second attempt coming in the 41st minute on a nice service in from freshman Franziska Theus, but Kelly stopped Marquis's shot from right in front of the net.
  • The Knights held Wagner to only five shots, with none of them reaching goal and held a 1-0 lead over Wagner.
  • In the 54th minute, senior Alyssa Caggiano found a bouncing ball in the box, but sent it just high of mark and continued to apply pressure when Udovc followed that up in the 56th minute with a chance that also went over the net.
  • After the Knights earned a free kick in the 64th minute, Marquis serviced in a left-footed strike that was saved by Kelly to keep it a 1-0 match.
  • FDU extended its lead to 2-0 in the 69th minute when they earned another free kick that was taken by Hausen, who found Robbins, and the midfielder curved a shot from distance that found the left corner of the net.
  • Senior goalie Cassandra Marcoux saved the only shot she faced in the 70th minute.
  • The Knights almost added another goal in the 74th minute when Udovc had her shot hit the post, but Udovc added FDU's third goal of the match shortly after with a goal off a nice service in from Hausen for her second assist of the match.
  • FDU added another goal to the lead in the 78th minute when Miseljic found Udovc, who found Marquis on the right side of the field and Marquis carried the ball down the right sideline, made a move to her left foot, and fired a shot into the back of the net to give FDU a 4-0 lead.
  • Neither team scored the rest of the match as the Knights coasted to a 4-0 win over Wagner.
