Knights Roll to Straight-Set Win Over LIU

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team rolled past LIU in straight sets 25-13, 25-11, 25-20 at the Rothman Center on Tuesday night.
 
Senior hitter Victoria Demmene was locked in from the start, totaling 16 kills, nine digs and three block assists as the Knights (4-5) registered a .277 attack percentage – their highest of the season. Fellow senior McKenna Setterlund had the team in rhythm throughout the three-set victory, dishing out 38 assists, while freshman Madisyn Beirne totaled 10 kills.
 
How it Happened
  • The Burgundy and Blue captured a 15-6 lead in the opening set after Beirne delivered three straight kills.
  • Back-to-back kills by Demmene helped push the lead to 12, 20-8 before the Knights finalized the opening-set win on a put-away by Tessa Fisk.
  • In the second set, the Knights led 13-10 before closing the frame on a 12-1 run and sealing the one-sided win.
  • Fisk was responsible for three of the Knights' final six points in the set.
  • The third set was the most tightly-contested of the night as the Sharks led 10-8 before the Knights scored eight of the next nine points to take a comfortable lead.
  • Three kills by Demmene powered the run.
  • The Burgundy and Blue would hold off the Sharks for the remainder of the set and seal the win.

  • The Knights totaled twice as many kills as the Sharks 46-23 and held their conference foe to just a .029 attack percentage – the second lowest by an opponent this season.
