TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team (3-2-0, 3-1-0 NEC) fought hard for 107 minutes and led for the majority of the contest, but ultimately fell 2-1 in double overtime to Merrimack (4-2-0, 3-1-0 NEC) on Friday night from University Stadium.
Senior
Alyssa Caggiano scored the FDU goal in the 40th minute after earning a penalty kick. The goal was Caggiano's first of the season and third of her career. Fellow senior
Cassandra Marcoux recorded a game-high six saves.
Coach Teepe's Thoughts
"We just seemed to be struggling today and are dealing with a lot of little nicks that I think we let it seep into our preparedness for this game," said head coach
Eric Teepe. "We just didn't play a mentally strong game and we caught a break being up 1-0, but we never really took command of the game and felt we were chasing the whole time."
"As a team, we had good moments and bad moments. I don't really think we did anything that would put us in a position to win the game today and we gave them an opportunity and they took it. I felt that overtime was our best part of the game and the part of the game where we were effective, but we left too much space on that goal."
"I felt our defense did a good job and they really had to battle today. We have to let this one sync in and get over it and let ourselves recover."
