HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team dropped a pair of tightly-contested matches to Bryant at the Rothman Center on Wednesday night.
The Knights honored their four seniors Victoria Demmen,
Allison Koester,
Magdalena Maksimovic and
McKenna Setterlund prior to the match.
Match 1: FDU 2, BRY 3 (25-22, 25-23, 19-25, 23-25, 11-15)
Match 2: FDU 1, BRY 3 (23-25, 25-23, 19-25, 22-25)
Records: FDU (3-5, 2-4 NEC), Bryant (4-3, 4-2 NEC)
Match 1: Bryant 3, FDU 2
- The Knights won the first two sets and seemed poised to take the match but the Bulldogs stormed back by winning the next three, including a four-point win in the decisive fifth set.
- Senior Victoria Demmene and freshman Madisyn Beirne led the charge with 22 and 15 kills, respectively.
- Setterlund celebrated her senior day with a strong performance, racking up 46 assists to go along with 17 digs.
- The Knights totaled a season-high 14 blocks led by sophomore Cloe Abadie-Calderon, who finished with a career-best 10.
- Junior defensive specialist Allegra Rivas made her debut for the Knights on Wednesday. The transfer from University of Maryland finished with four digs and a service ace in her first match in the Burgundy and Blue.
Match 2: Bryant 3, FDU 1
- The tight play continued into the second match of the day as the Bulldogs squeezed out a two-point win in the first set before the Knights earned a two-point win of their own in the second set.
- The Bulldogs grabbed the reins and won by six in the third before finalizing the match with a three-point win in the fourth frame.
- Demmene had another big offensive output, racking up 20 kills to go along with 12 digs, while Setterlund dished out 38 assists to go along with 12 digs of her own.
- Maksimovic was the lone other Knight to total double-digit kills, finishing with 11 and 11 digs in the loss.
- Koester tallied a team-high 24 digs in the contest.
