NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The No. 20 Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team (26-2, 17-1 NEC) swept the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers on Sunday as the team went a perfect 9-0 during the second and final Northeast Conference meet of the season.
To begin the day, the two sides battled in a traditional scoring game with the Knights winning 1,012-891. During the match, sophomore
Cameron Spring connected for nine strikes on 12 attempts, including closing out the battle with six consecutive strikes to lead the team with 224 pins.
Moving to the Baker total pinfall match, FDU was led by the four and five-hole players en route to a 1,026-976 victory over the Terriers. Senior
Amanda Chrzanowski struck on six of 10 attempts and fellow senior, and reigning NEC Co-Bowler of the Week,
Jenna Henderson rolled a double in the tenth frame in four of five games in the match.
The final bout of the day between the Burgundy and Blue and the Terriers went down to the wire with the Knights taking the Baker match play game four games to three (4-3) in the best-of-seven series. FDU dropped the first two games before roaring back to win four of the last five, including the critical sixth and seventh games to clinch the victory. Spring filled 13-of-14 frames in the match, including seven strikes. She went two-for-two in game seven. Senior
Deborah Epps filled 12-of-14 frames, seven of which were strikes.
In dramatic fashion, Chrzanowski struck in the ninth frame and Henderson followed with a strike of her own and a spare in the tenth. Her clutch double lifted the Knights to a 201-190 game seven win and sealing the team's 17th consecutive victory.
Following the meet, head coach
Mike LoPresti stated, "We're in the midst of an amazing streak and it took a bunch of outstanding performances to keep it going today.
He continued, "
Deborah Epps solidified our lineup with her consistently play, picking up the slack when mistakes were made ahead of her. From the leadoff position,
Cameron Spring's string of strikes that closed out the traditional game turned a close match into a comfortable victory. Moreover, her two clutch strikes in game seven of the best-of-seven Baker match put us in the position to pull out the match."
"Most significantly were the stellar performances of
Amanda Chrzanowski and
Jenna Henderson, our respective four and five players. They came through all day long, especially when the team needed it during crunch time. Amanda was clean throughout the best of seven (Baker match play) match, and rallied the team in games four through seven when she rolled seven of eight possible strikes, including a huge strike in the ninth frame of game seven.
LoPresti concluded, "Amazingly, Jenna threw a double in the tenth frame in eight times out of a possible 13 tenth frames today and one of the times she didn't do it, she got the important first hit in the tenth to clinch the final match of the day."
With their wins today, the Knights sit in sole possession of first place in the NEC with just a few weeks remaining in the regular season.
