Women's Bowling Rolls Their Way to Three-Win Sweep of LIU

FDU currently has a six-match win streak against LIU dating back to February 7, 2020

NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The No. 20 Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team (23-2, 14-1 NEC) continued its hot streak with three wins on Saturday against LIU.

The Burgundy and Blue narrowly beat the Sharks in a 934-922 traditional scoring match to begin the day. Following the sixth game, LIU had a 31-pin lead as FDU got off to a slow start. Junior Lanasia Neal came off the bench and ignited the Knights' attack with a rally late in the match bowling a double in the eighth and ninth frames of play. Senior Amanda Chrzanowski also helped lead the comeback with a triple in the seventh, eighth and ninth frames, ending with a 207 game.

Reigning NEC Co-Bowler of the week, senior Jenna Henderson, bowled six consecutive strikes that spanned from the fifth frame through the first hit in the tenth, cementing a photo finish for the first Knights win of the day.

Moving to the Baker total pinfall bout, FDU sealed the deal with a 242 third game that put the match out of reach for LIU with senior Deborah Epps stringing together five consecutive strikes to bolster the Knights' scoring. Henderson rolled 13 strikes out of 18 strike attempts and doubled in the tenth frame three out of five times. The Knights would take the match, 1,049-929.

To end the afternoon, FDU and LIU competed in a Baker match play battle which saw the Knights win four games to two (4-2). Sophomore Cameron Spring and senior Aimee Sherman each threw down seven strikes in 12 attempts. Chrzanowski kicked into gear late in the day with nine strikes in 12 attempts, including eight straight. Henderson maintained the status quo of the day with 13 strikes in 20 attempts, including striking out in the tenth frame in three of six games.

Following the team's performance head coach Mike LoPresti stated, "It was awesome to see how Lanasia Neal, Deborah Epps, and Aimee Sherman came off the bench to spark us to big wins today.

LoPresti continued, "Lanasia picked us up in the traditional game helping fuel our late rally. Deborah solidified a strong team effort in the middle of our lineup in the Baker total pin fall match with when she strung five strikes in a row. Aimee's contribution in Baker match play, which included six strikes in seven frames, helped get us to a 3-1 lead in the match. It's these types of performances that have collectively put us in the position we are in today."

The Burgundy and Blue return to North Brunswick on Sunday, Feb. 28, for the final day of the second Northeast Conference meet with three matches against St. Francis Brooklyn.
