Women's Volleyball Falls to Sacred Heart in Four Sets

HACKENSACK, N.J. - Women's volleyball (8-18, 3-9 NEC) fell to the reigning NEC champion Sacred Heart (15-9, 9-3 NEC) in four sets at the Rothman Center on Saturday.

Inside the Box Score

  • Graduate student Miriam Stingl posted a career-high 20.5 points with 19 kills and three blocks. Stingl tallied seven kills and two blocks in the first set alone on a .357 clip.

  • Tallying 15 points was sophomore Madisyn Beirne who posted 13 kills, a service ace and a pair of blocks.

  • Graduate student Alix Christie recorded a season-high eight blocks along with eight kills for 12.5 points.

  • Exchange student Pauline Giordano and senior Allegra Rivas anchored FDU with a combined 39 digs. Giordano notched a double-double in the match with a career-high 42 assists.

How it Happened

  • The Pioneers established a slight edge early in set one with a three-kill streak by Jasmine Rogers. On a five-point run with three straight kills by Spiridonakos, the Knights took control and did not let up. The Knights tallied 17 total attacks on a .341 clip to take the set 25-22.

  • Coming out on a 6-1 run, set two belonged to the Pioneers from early on. The Knights worked to close the gap with four blocks from Christie but were unsuccessful, dropping the set 25-20.

  • The teams traded points in the third set to knot the score at 16. A final 9-2 run sealed the set in favor of the Pioneers, 25-17.

  • The fourth set was another back-and-forth affair as the teams swapped points to 23. The Knights were a force against the Pioneers, recording 17 attacks and five blocks as a team. However, it was not enough to hold Sacred Heart, as FDU fell 25-23.

Thoughts from Coach France

"Another great effort by the Knights. Sacred Heart's defense was just able to hold our offense. However, I am happy with the performance we had against one of the best teams in the conference."
